Peppermint shrimp, also known as candy cane shrimp, are named for their distinctive red and white striped coloration, which resembles a candy cane. Peppermint shrimp are small, typically growing to a maximum size of two inches, and are relatively hardy and easy to care for. They are also known for their ability to clean aquariums by eating unwanted pests such as bristle worms and aiptasia, a type of pest anemone that can quickly overtake a saltwater aquarium. Aiptasia can be difficult to remove and can harm other invertebrates and fish in the tank. Peppermint shrimp are a natural predator of aiptasia and have been known to consume them with great efficiency. However, it is important to note that not all peppermint shrimp are effective at controlling aiptasia, and some may prefer other types of food.
